3D Printing – The Revolution Is Just Started

3D printing is already popular today as you must have heard about it from newscasters or journalists. As marveled as you might be, what you might have heard is true, 3D printers creates objects out of thin air just like the Replicator from a famous movie. It can print in plastic, metal, nylon and over a hundred other materials. 3D printers can be used to print almost anything from useless models to manufacturing prototypes and end user products like engine parts, quasi-legal guns and even human organs using a person’s own cells.

New Historical Age Just Started…

Today, we are witnessing what many call the Third Industrial Revolution. 3D printing, more professionally called additive manufacturing, is gradually taking us away from the Henry Ford era mass production line to a new reality of customizable, one-off production. For example, when you need a machine part right now, you order it from a distributor who buys from manufacturing companies who have mass produced it in commercial quantities. But with 3D printing, in the future which we are at its beginning, you will simply need to print that machine part you need right in the comfort of your home using a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file which is a 3D model you downloaded from the internet.

3D Printing – how is it done?

3D printers use a variety of very different types of additive manufacturing technologies, but they all share one core thing in common: they create a three dimensional object by building it layer by successive layer, until the entire object is complete. It’s much like printing in two dimensions on a sheet of paper, but with an added third dimension: UP. the Z-axis. Each of these printed layers is a thinly-sliced, horizontal cross-section of the eventual object. Imagine a multi-layer cake, with the baker laying down each layer one at a time until the entire cake is formed. 3D printing is somewhat similar, but just a bit more precise than 3D baking.
